The Career Coach holistically supports the career development of the UMN Morris student body across majors and interests and supports students in identifying potential major/career pathways. The Career Coach empowers students to navigate their own career development while offering intentional guidance, support, and connection.

The Career Coach is an integral part of the UMN Morris Student Success Center team, which includes Academic Advising, Career Services, Disability Resource Center, First Year Experience, Learning Assistance, New Student Orientation, and Transfer Student Services.

This is an in-person position.

Job duties

Career Coaching & Development (50%)

  • Provide career coaching and development in individual and group formats, working with both current students and recent alumni
  • Design and deliver workshops and presentations supporting career readiness including career exploration, resume, CV, and cover letter development, job search strategies, interview skills, negotiation
  • Plan campus-wide fairs and events for students interested in exploring graduate school, internships, and employment opportunities
  • Administer and interpret personality and career assessments, which may include Clifton Strengths, Strong Interest Inventory, and others
  • Develop and teach a 1-credit career-focused course

Relationship Development & Collaboration (30%)

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with staff and faculty across campus
  • Partner with faculty and others to integrate career development opportunities into curricular and co-curricular programs
  • Contribute to campus-wide events involving current and prospective students and families
  • Build relationships with employers, alumni, and others

Additional Responsibilities (20%)

  • Use a variety of platforms to support event facilitation, networking, student development, and record keeping (Handshake, Maroon & Gold Network, APLUS, Clifton Strengths, and more)
  • Manage updates to the Career Services webpage and other student facing resources
  • Maintain current knowledge of market and job trends, hiring practices, and emerging career pathways
  • Engage in regular professional development, work collaboratively with career development staff from all UMN campuses, serve on committees as assigned or approved
  • Regularly assess career development activities, seeking opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Other duties as assigned or approved

Qualifications

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities

  • BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience, or master's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work, and take initiative
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse student body with varied interests
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and team-building abilities
  • Skilled in presentation design and delivery
  • Proficiency with technology and ability to learn new systems and software/programs
  • Experience in career coaching, advising, or other student support fields
  • Experience administering and interpreting career assessments
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $56,500 - $58,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 100% Appointment
