Job Summary

Maintains overall preliminary design responsibility which includes: client contract, scope development, design, consultant management, regulatory submittals and quality control for moderate to complex projects. Collaborates with Project Managers to coordinate budgeting and scheduling phases of projects. Projects may include: building renovations, feasibility studies, site developments and/or new construction projects. Performs engineering design for Corewell Health construction projects as required.

Essential Functions
  • Maintains accountability for the design and management (directing, coordinating and reviews/approvals) of professional design consultant services. This includes the review of plan/program documents, designs, and construction bid documents such as drawings, specifications, and estimates and project budgets.

  • Completes engineering design documents using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software when appropriate for preliminary and schematic plans, and outline specification of materials and equipment. Completes engineering calculations relating to design document development.

  • Prepares state regulatory submittals, alternate design schemes, project phasing, project records and reports for building renovations and/or new construction.

  • Acts as liaison to design firms and contractors on renovation and construction projects.

  • Reviews and approves the work of consultant design firms and other specialty consultants in the preparation of studies and design/construction documents.

  • Maintains and updates hospital drawings and maintains in filing system/catalogs, as appropriate.

  • Functions as an engineering consultant to all departments, units and other staff with regard to planning, design and construction of renovations and additions. Provides input into feasibility of initiating various construction and renovation projects.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent years of education, training and experience

  • 5 years of relevant experience design engineering or related field

  • LIC-Driver's License - STATE_MI State of Michigan

  • CRT-Auto Insurance

Preferred

  • Experience in health care environment

  • LIC-Professional Engineer - STATE_MI State of Michigan
