Our Guardian Glass facility, in Carleton, MI, is hiring a Fabricator/Maintenance Mechanic. If you enjoy building, modifying, and repairing equipment with precision metalwork - while also supporting the reliability of plant operations - then this may be the job for you!

For this role compensation will be commensurate with experience. We work Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm Overtime will be required as needed. This role offers a robust benefits package that includes but is not limited to; a 401k match of 7%, 120 hours of vacation time, and on-demand pay (your money when you need it).

Our Team
Our Fabricator/Maintenance Mechanics play a key role in keeping our facility and equipment running reliably by combining strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with advanced fabrication capability. In this role, you'll proactively design, weld, and machine custom parts to solve problems and make sustainable repairs. The most successful candidates bring creativity, craftsmanship, and problem-solving skills to both preventative maintenance and custom fabrication projects.

What You Will Do

  • Perform advanced fabrication work including welding (MIG/TIG/Stick), cutting, and machining to build or modify equipment and guarding
  • Design and fabricate custom parts, brackets, and supports to improve reliability and efficiency of plant operations
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on conveyors, bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics, and drive systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and fabrication designs to support projects
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on production machines and facility equipment
  • Safely operate shop equipment: welders, plasma cutters, mills, lathes, presses, and grinders
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability teams to develop innovative solutions
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts, and fabrication work
  • Follow all safety and environmental procedures, maintaining a clean and orderly workspace

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • 2+ years' experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance
  • 2+ years' experience in metal fabrication and welding (MIG/TIG/Stick)
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with design and metal fabrication
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drive systems
  • Experience with electrical systems (motors, power & control circuits, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs)
  • Strong creative problem-solving ability to design and build custom solutions
