Description
Summary / Position Purpose:
The Director of EH&S is responsible for developing and managing the organization's environmental health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations as well as foster a culture of safety and sustainability. This senior-level role involves a combination of strategic planning, policy development, risk management, and hands-on cross functional implementation to build a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Essential Duties, Functions and/or Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive EH&S policies, procedures and KPI's to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA), emergency response and disaster recovery plans
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard evaluations to identify potential safety and environmental risks
- Along with the Quality Team, lead audits and inspections to identify non-compliance issues and overs the implementation of corrective actions. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required
- Provide EHS training and development to employees to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility
- Investigate and report on incidents and accidents, ensuring thorough documentation and implementation of corrective actions
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance as well as address environmental impacts, such as waste management
- Lead sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the organization's carbon footprint and promoting waste and pollution reduction efforts
- Indirectly and directly responsible for product quality
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 7+ years of experience in an EH&S role, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership capacity
- Previous experience in high-risk industries (e.g., manufacturing, construction) is a plus
- Thorough understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001 standards is a plus
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills; excellent communication ability; and proficiency in understanding and applying EH&S laws, regulations and principles
- Proven track record of successful EHS program development and implementation is desired
- CSP, CIH, CHMM certifications are preferred
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team development skills
- Strong creative thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to travel often to other sites or events for the organization
