Summary
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Quality Control Inspector- Mechanical for our project in Fort Meade, MD. The state-of-the art operations facility consists of a multi-story, 858,000-square-foot building that will include open office areas, collaborative multi-discipline workspace, computer labs and virtual instruction/distance learning-enable classrooms along with an accompanying 1.2-million-square-foot parking garage. This facility will be built to achieve LEED Silver certification, will comply with Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) standards and will include redundant primary power and Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) systems to ensure continuity of operations. This project is design-build. This role is a member of the quality control team who supports the Quality Manager and Director of Quality Control in performing project quality control activities that ensure the highest levels of product quality, compliance with specifications, codes and client expectations, and the application of Balfour Beatty Standard Operating Procedures. The Quality Control Inspector- Mechanical will also provide feedback regarding observations and process improvement needs.
Essential Functions
- Supports the application of Balfour Beatty's standard operating procedures at the project level.
- Understands the contract requirements for QC for the various specialty trades.
- Provides physical oversight and inspection of work as it is being performed.
- Conducts inspections on subcontractors' work for compliance with specifications, applicable codes and contract requirements.
- Interacts with city inspectors or third-party inspectors.
- Conducts material testing and product verification.
- Initiates the implementation and monitoring of corrective and preventive actions in the Field.
- Informs the QC team of issues and trends occurring on the projects that may impact the effectiveness of Balfour Beatty to provide quality product and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Assists the QC team in analyzing issues, determining root causes, developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Supports the program of continuous improvement at the project, which effectively measures performance, addresses deficiencies, and prevents recurrence of problems.
- May participate in project reviews to assess the application and effectiveness of company standard operating procedures, subcontractor processes and procedures and identifies any opportunities for improvement.
- Participates in close-out processes to confirm all quality related issues have been resolved and provides feedback on lessons learned so they can be incorporated in future projects.

Working Conditions
- The majority of work is completed on the job site, in an office trailer or an existing structure. Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, when employees are outside of the office trailer or structure, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
- The project team and/or team member may need to move to other projected work geographic locations, if necessary.
Education, Experience, and Knowledge
- B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position
- Quality Control Inspector qualifications include career as a trade specific licensed journeyman with ten years of relevant field experience with commercial mechanical and controls systems. Will also consider Quality Control Inspector with engineering degree related to mechanical expertise and five years of construction experience.
- Organizes people, tools and equipment and plan/manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results.
- Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, codes and contract requirements.
- Ability to perform in-process inspections and effectively communicate results.
- Familiar with electronic data collection and inspection methods.
- Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
- Due to federal legal requirements, only candidates who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), or individuals granted asylee or refugee status will be considered for this position. Individuals with temporary work authorization are not eligible.
- Federal project experience is preferred but not required.
