The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa's Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is looking for a Temporary Clerk in the Coralville, Iowa facility. LOCATION: Coralville, IOWA SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday up to 20hrs (hours may vary on each day. Final schedule to be determined upon hire). Modality: On-site Position Status: 1-Year Part-Time (50%) with a possibility to extend up to 2 yrs. PAY: $18.72 per hour JOB DUTIES: * Performs SHL phone operator duties. Answer the operator phone for incoming calls to the Laboratory. * Transferring calls to appropriate departments. * Performs data entry and verification of clinical confidential public health specimens. * Places phone calls to facilities to verify discrepancies on test request forms and enter correctly in the database. * Integrates information and may run routine queries to generate or produce reports. * Initiates clinical kit orders. * Updates information in the LIMS system when appropriate. * Aid with general filing, sending out daily mail and office organization duties. REQUIRED QUALIFICATION: * Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment. DESIRED QUALIFICATION: * Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping. * Basic office experience. * Previous experience in data entry * Thirty words per minute typing ability. * Knowledge of environmental and/or clinical terminology. * Excellent communication and customer service skills is a must.
