MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.

2. Must possess current or temporary Nuclear Medicine license as required by state board where services will be provided:

MD:Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Maryland Board of Physicians

OH:Nuclear Medicine Technologist through Ohio Department of Health

PA:No state license required

VA:Radiological Technologist license through the Virginia Board of Medicine

WV:Nuclear Medicine License OR Nuclear Medicine Apprentice License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
3. Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within six months of hire.

4. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

5. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

1. Attends and participates in departmental meetings and activities to support progress improvement and team building.
2. Participates in planning and implementing change, maintaining and improving high quality, cost effective department operations.
3. Performs a full range of nuclear medicine diagnostic imaging and/or treatment procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and ultimate treatment of patients.
4. Plans and performs imaging procedures to produce medical images for the diagnosis or treatment of patients meeting the quality standards of the department as identified through professional literature and department protocol, policy and procedure.
5. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff in accordance with Radiation Safety Department policy, procedure and guidelines as well as State, Federal, The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory bodies.
6. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification using identified communication mechanism to ensure the performance of radiology services.
7. Assesses patients' needs related to comfort, hygiene and range of motion and provides support accordingly.
8. Performs as a clinical and/or didactic instructor meeting the quality standards of the radiology education program(s) as identified through professional literature, department and radiology education program(s) protocol, policy and procedure.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
2. Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
3. Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient's condition, age or ability.
4. Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.

The Nuclear Medicine Clinical Ladder is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for respiratory therapists.

To apply for the next level, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist must meet the requirements of their current level. They must also meet the required years of experience, degree, and certification to apply for the next level.

Level 1

  • No experience required.
  • All Nuclear Medicine Technologists with less than 12 months of experienceenter at Level one.

Level 2

  • Meets requirements for previous level.
  • One year of experience.
  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus 1 additional skill set.

Level 3

  • Meets requirements for previous levels.
  • One continuing education pathway.
  • Three years of experience.
  • Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus 3 additional skill sets.

Level 4

  • Meets requirements for previous levels.
  • One continuing education pathway.
  • Five years of experience.
  • Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Complete competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 5 additional skill sets.
