Department Summary

UNT's Collaborative Piano Program offers MM and DMA degrees in Collaborative Piano, as well as opportunities for Piano Performance majors interested in studying collaborative arts. The program supports individual students by designing courses of study that reflect each pianist's career aspirations, musical interests, and previous experience. In addition to private lessons and collaborative piano classes, pianists explore the activities of the profession through experiential learning in opera, large choral and instrumental ensembles, entrepreneurship activities, and diction and repertory class settings, among others.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The University of North Texas Division of Keyboard Studies invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano position (tenure-track) starting in August 2026 with a specialization in instrumental collaboration. The duties of the position include:

- Teach graduate level Collaborative Piano applied lessons for majors and minors;

- Teach related courses, which may include Instrumental Collaborative Piano Literature, Instrumental Repertoire Masterclass, Collaborative Piano Pedagogy, and other courses that reflect the individual's specific areas of interest and scholarship;

- Supervise graduate student recitals and DMA documents;

- Recruit new students to the program;

- Contribute to the coordination and functioning of the Collaborative Piano Program, the Division of Keyboard Studies, and the College of Music;

- Serve on committees, including doctoral committees;

- Participate in on-campus recitals;

- Perform other appropriate college, university, and professional service; and

- Maintain a national/international profile as a performer and pedagogue.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned master's degree in music with a minimum of five years artist-level experience of collaborative performance with instrumentalists. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of at least two years of successful teaching at the university level and will exhibit (at a minimum) an emerging national profile as teacher and performer. The successful candidate will be a positive and engaged mentor to the students in the Department and throughout the College and will be a creative problem solver who is able to work collaboratively with people of wide-ranging backgrounds and origins.

Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate preferred. The strongest candidates will have established a national and international reputation as instrumental collaborative artist and pedagogue.
