Summary: The Information Technology Specialist III / Linux System Administrator is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and support of Linux-based systems that underpin the Indian Health Service's Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). This role ensures system stability, security, and performance across development, testing, and production environments.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Support would include (but not limited to): backup and recovery of systems, patching of systems, providing Tier II/III support to lower tiers, performance tuning, hardware upgrades, operational configurations, resource optimization, manage file server utilization, track vulnerabilities, and apply patching, etc.
- Coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of UNIX and AIX infrastructure hardware/software which support RPMS systems and applications.
- Maintain/troubleshoot the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of RPMS systems/applications, networks, and data through the analysis, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to support Linux and Microsoft operating systems and Linux Servers in virtualized environments.
- Expert knowledge of Linux scripting languages used to manage an enterprise operation.
- Ability to develop project management documentation.
- Ability to work with little or no guidance. Ability to manage and initiate projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree is preferred; however, an associate degree or a combination of relevant education, certifications, and experience may be considered in lieu of a four-year degree.
- Minimum 5 years of related technical and some managerial experience in supporting information technology environment at the server/data center level.
- Ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiry and Credit (NACIC) background investigation.
