Intern: Cybersecurity / Infrastructure Engineer - JR | Summer 2026 Start
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Cybersecurity / Infrastructure Engineer Intern to be based in our Fall River, MA office. This Cybersecurity / Infrastructure Engineer will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers to solve some of the Navy's toughest challenges. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.
Our Cyber Security / Infrastructure Engineer Interns work alongside our technical teams to secure complex systems and environments. This is a 100% onsite position in a classified lab environment, where you will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of cybersecurity, including physical, network, and operating system security. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to ensure system integrity and consistency across multiple security enclaves.

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active U.S. security clearance.
Cyber Security / Infrastructure Engineer Intern Responsibilities:
  • Work with team members to secure both classified and unclassified environments to the same stringent security standards.
  • Assist in hardening Linux operating systems and network devices to comply with security policies.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of physical security controls within a controlled laboratory.
  • Contribute to vulnerability management and patching efforts.
  • Participate in other relevant intern tasks as assigned within the classified lab.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program with a major in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, firewalls, and network protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux operating system security principles.
  • A desire to learn and work in a fast-paced, classified environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with security scanning tools and vulnerability management concepts.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks like NIST or STIGs.
  • Understanding of physical security protocols and technologies.
