Intern: Information Technology - JR - Summer 2026 Start
Innovative Defense Technologies(IDT),provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Intern to be based in our San Diego office. This IT Engineer will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers to solve some of the Navy's toughest challenges. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.
Overview:
IT Engineer Interns at IDT work alongside our technical teams to build, configure, and secure the Information Technology infrastructure that will ultimately house services in support of the Department of Defense (DOD). The candidates for this role will learn skills to include but not limited to Networking,Server Setup and Configuration,Linux/Unix-based systems, andVirtualization. Candidates for this role should be expected to work on-site with our Integrated Mission Systems (IMS) Business Area in our San Diego, California location.

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Security Clearance.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program with a major in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, cyber security, mathematics, or aeronautical engineering
  • Experience with common software applications and hardware components
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with using and configuring server-based systems or server based operating systems
  • Experience with developing scripting and automation issues for complex tasks
  • Experience with dealing with a complex ecosystem of technology
  • Completed coursework/experience in relation to the building, securing and maintaining of Information Technology systems such as servers, switches, or workstations
  • Experience with VMWare or virtualization technologies
  • Current college juniors/rising seniors preferred
