Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT),provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to be based in our San Diego office. This Software Engineer will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers to solve some of the Navy's toughest challenges. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.
Overview:
IDT seeks to add a Software Engineer Intern responsible for designing, developing, and integrating software solutions across IDT's Integrated Mission Systems (IMS) business area. The primary role of the Software Engineer Intern is to build high-quality, innovative, and fully performing software which integrates with other system components. The Software Engineer will be working with various IMS customers to gather user requirements, defining system functionality, and writing code in various languages, like Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript. You will work with other software engineers, systems engineers, integration engineers, and subject matter experts to deliver robust technical solutions. Candidates for this role should be expected to work on-site in our San Diego, California location.

All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Security Clearance.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program with a major in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, cyber security, mathematics, or aeronautical engineering
  • Completed coursework/experience in application development with JAVA, Python, or C++ in a Linux or Windows environment
  • Experience using deployment platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with any of the following: JavaScript, Java, Python, C++
  • Proficiency with version control software like Git or SVN and version control workflows that support development of complex software projects
  • Familiarity with computer networking and various networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, CORBA, DDS)
  • Experience with VMWare or virtualization technologies
  • Current college juniors/rising seniors preferred
