Position Summary

The UNM-Taos Department of Fine Arts seek to hire a Temporary Part-Time Faculty member(s) to teach one or more of the following subject areas for the Spring 2026.

Openings include the following face-to-face course:

ARTS1310 - Introduction to Ceramics

This course introduces the technical processes and conceptual concerns of working with ceramic material. Various methods of forming functional and expressive works out of clay are explored. Methods used include hand building and throwing, basic clay bodies, slip and glaze, and atmospheric firing.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in these ways:

* A master's degree in fine arts, or relevant degree with minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly a community college.

* Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction.

* A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.

*Cover Letter. Please include what specific course(s) you are interested in teaching.
*Unofficial graduate level transcripts will be accepted with application, but we will need official graduate level transcripts if you are selected for hire.
*Candidate should provide a list of technical skills in the area of expertise, be able to exhibit abilities in, hand building, wheel throwing, sculptural technique and different surface treatments and should exhibit knowledge of glazes and firing of mid fire ceramics with both gas and electric kilns as well as raku.
*Candidates should provide an example syllabus for a semester long Introduction to Ceramics class.
*Candidates should be active in the field and provide a portfolio of work of at least ten images and up to twenty.
*Provide three references for teaching experience.

Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
