Vanderbilt University invites applications for two open rank tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Education in Organizations with joint appointments in the College of Connected Computing and in the Peabody College of Education and Human Development. The faculty member will be a core participant in LIVE, Vanderbilts interdisciplinary Learning Innovation Incubator. We define the area of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Organizations broadly, with research foci that may include work with representational or generative AI, machine learning, and/or learning analytics in the context of K12, higher education, and workplace learning. We seek candidates with a strong program of research that may include work in areas such as those listed below. These examples are not exhaustive, and we welcome innovative approaches at the intersection of AI, education, and organizational learning in all forms. Sample Areas of Work:
The search committee seeks a heterogenous applicant pool with candidates from a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds. The departmental home within each college will be determined in accordance with the successful candidates academic profile. The faculty members administrative home and tenure line will be in Peabody College, with a 51% primary appointment. The faculty member will have a 49% primary appointment in the College of Connected Computing. Teaching responsibilities will be split evenly between the two colleges according to applicable workload policies. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to innovation, impact, and interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty across Vanderbilt that are committed to advancing research and practice in the design, development, and evaluation of innovative learning environments that promote human development and flourishing at individual, collective, organizational and societal levels. Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Learning Sciences, Computer Science, Educational Psychology, Information Science, Cognitive Science, Educational Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, Information Science, Leadership, Policy and Organizations or a related field by the time of appointment A record of high-quality innovative research on the design, development, implementation and/or use of AI in educational and organizational settings including in schools, higher education, workplace, or informal learning contexts as evidenced through publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Record of, or potential for, securing external funding to support research and development activities Excellence in teaching and mentoring students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Ability to teach classes, mentor students, and develop curriculum in both Peabody College and the College of Connected Computing Engagement with mechanisms to generate real-world impact with AI in educational and organizational settings such as community or corporate partnerships, open-source release or licensing agreements, or the development of educational technologies.
