Responsibilities
The Manager, Clinical Dietitian serves as a leader and operates as the highest-level expert provider of nutrition-related education and patient care within the Norton Healthcare system. The Manager, Clinical Dietitian oversees the development and implementation of nutrition care delivery in their area of work for Norton Healthcare. This role is responsible for clinical staff, ensuring quality ongoing education and training, development of top-of-scope protocols, direct patient care and support, including comprehensive nutrition assessment, intervention, evidence-based education and nutrition-focused physical exam under policies and protocols approved by supervising Licensed Care Practitioners/Providers. The Manager, Clinical Dietitian supports programming for onsite programs and classes on nutrition and relevant health and wellness topics. This role is responsible for the development and implementation of processes and programs, along with monitoring, documenting tracking, and reporting patient results. The Manager, Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition or pharmacotherapy support recommendations, changes, and initiations for those requiring alternative nutrition, or medication therapies as appropriate and ensures reporting clinical staff have training and support in this area. The Manager, Clinical Dietitian measurably improves patient outcomes and adapt patient-facing education and services to fit all literacy and socioeconomic levels. As an advanced credential specialist, they will utilize critical thinking, decisive clinical judgement, and demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision in an ever-changing environment. All certifications and education are to be successfully maintained. This role functions as part of multidisciplinary team and collaborates with organizational departments/committees and partners with external programs to provide robust health and wellness options to patients served. Additional roles and responsibilities will include the training and guidance of students, interns, and new team members, participation in program research and development, training of staff and providers, and other duties as assigned. Key Accountabilities:
- Leads current programming to increase enhancement of processes with the aim of improving the clinical experience for patients and their families. Development, use, and evaluation of clinical pathways, standards of care and practice guidelines according to assigned role. Disseminates research findings for translation into practice to team and leadership and assists with designing quality improvement processes. Develops and participates in academic research or/or co-authoring academic manuscripts, and/or formal presentations to professional audience in field of specialty.
- Provides supervision and training to clinical team, and maintains ability to provide direct patient care. Applies pathophysiology knowledge of medical conditions to nutrition management, education and support. Develops policies and protocols for the Registered Dietitian and Registered Dietitian Specialist and Sr Specialist working at top of scope. Implements training, enhancement, early adoption and best-practice improvements for patient-facing pharmacotherapy plan, including adjustments using approved protocols consistent with facility policies. Ensures ability of self and reporting clinical staff to evaluate appropriateness of medications for disease state and metabolic conditions, complete comprehensive assessment of patients' pharmacotherapy regimens, manages medications and laboratory assessment using approved protocols and policies, evaluate appropriateness of current care plan for nutrition-related diagnosis, and provides recommendations to patients care team and providers. Provides comprehensive nutrition care through onsite program/classes addressing nutrition modifications, health improvement, physical activity, and wellness topics as appropriate for patients and their families. Applies current principles of clinical practice guidelines to all types of nutrition-related diagnosis and conditions. Implements risk reduction strategies to minimize actual and potential risks related to nutrition related diagnosis. Implements prevention strategies to assist patients at care transition points. Provides accessible programming options to participants as determined by assessment of patient acuity, technology availability, etc. Assists clinical team in direct patient care through education, coaching and guidance in developing a professional development plan and goals.
- Develops and implements processes and programs with the aim of achieving improved health outcome results for patients. Assesses efficacy of current programming and clinical skill of staff, education and training process, etc. Improves processes and procedures ongoing based on these assessments. Utilizes resources appropriately. Develops policies and procedures.
- Operates as part of a multidisciplinary team by leading nutrition therapy patient care plan as assessed and established with patient, communicating directly with other members of patient's care team in a timely matter. Identifies patients that would be appropriate for nutrition therapy. Promotes role of RD in multidisciplinary team, and advocates for the value of services offered by RD, including programs focused on management, education, prevention of nutrition related diagnosis and conditions. Obtains and maintains required certifications and competencies required by individual's role within the NHC system.
- Monitors, documents, tracks and reports out on patient results. Achieves annual performance metrics. Identifies program goals, objectives and resources to produce optimal outcomes for nutrition-related education and patient care services. Aligns nutrition-related services with the mission and strategic initiatives of the hospital system. Identifies system-based errors and analyzes healthcare systems, to assist with implementation of data-driven solutions.
Qualifications
Required:
- Five years experience in specialty area
- Dietitian State DT - licensed in state of practice; KY or IN and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist National RDN and one of CSG, CSOWM, CSO, CSP, CSPCC, CSR, CSSD, CDCES, NWCC, CNSC, CED-RD, or CACFD
