Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Manager to lead and coordinate research activities across the Department of Laboratory Medicine. In this pivotal role, the successful candidate will oversee multidisciplinary research projects, supervise laboratory teams, ensure regulatory and ethical compliance, and drive the production of high-quality scientific outputs. This leadership position is critical to advancing our clinical research agenda and translating laboratory discoveries into meaningful healthcare innovations. What you will do: Team Leadership & Management
- Hire, train, and onboard new research staff including coordinators, nurses, and assistants.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and manage HR-related issues for direct reports.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovative work environment.
- Provide mentorship and subject matter expertise in clinical research operations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training opportunities for team development.
Operational Oversight
- Supervise daily operations of research activities within research lab and research operations in partnership with Principal Investigators (PIs) and admin director.
- Guide and support the team through clinical trial activities, including submission, recruitment, start-up, enrollment, and close-out.
- Monitor project milestones, timelines, and deliverables; ensure alignment with institutional and sponsor objectives.
- Oversee sample collection, data generation, analysis, and reporting activities.
- Ensure optimal workflow, resource utilization, and lab safety compliance.
- Write procedures, consent forms, preparing regulatory and grant submissions, fulfilling contract requirements, and overseeing and fulfilling financial operations. Establish timelines and goals for projects, ensuring all IRB submissions are accurate, study procedures are followed, and all research staff are following institutional policies.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, instruments, and methods relevant to clinical research.
- Improve workflow efficiencies and streamline processes across research protocols.
- Takes initiative in troubleshooting day-to-day operational challenges, including IT and facilities issues.
- Partner with finance team to ensure accurate financial tracking, budget development, and performance reporting.
- Optimize research productivity and ensure efficient use of resources.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure research activities comply with IRB, IACUC, CLIA, CAP, GCP, and institutional policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including protocols, SOPs, validation reports, and study records.
- Prepare and assist with audits and inspections.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Review and approve timecards for direct reports.
- Identify opportunities for program growth, expansion of trial portfolios, and process improvement.
- Serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, sponsors, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, SOPs, GCP, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify growth opportunities for our team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required, Clinical laboratory background preferred
- Certification: An individual with a CCRP, ACRP, ASCP or related certification is preferred.
- Experience: General knowledge of "Good Clinical Practices" and research processes. Experience in a clinical research or related setting with increasing responsibility preferred. Prior clinical lab experience supervisory and research budget experience preferred.
