Job Description

We're looking for a highly motivated and skilled Linux System Administrator to join the Division of IT at the University of Missouri, where you'll be a key contributor in supporting and improving the university's enterprise infrastructure. This role is focused on maintaining the health and security of business-critical systems, automating routine tasks, and supporting both on-prem and cloud environments. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a service-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain automation scripts, primarily using Python or Bash scripting
- Support and administer RHEL-based Linux systems (Oracle Linux, CentOS, Red Hat)
- Troubleshoot and maintain enterprise infrastructure across on-prem and cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to system alerts and incidents during and after business hours
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to improve system performance and reliability or help solve end-user issues
- Work closely with vendors and campus partners to make sure their tools and systems integrate properly with our environment and support our goals

Shift

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Flexibility is required, including availability for occasional weekends, holidays, and alternate hours as needed during on-call shifts or other operational demands.

Minimum Qualifications

- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required

- Experience maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting Linux systems in an enterprise environment

- Familiarity with enterprise security practices and a strong focus on maintaining secure systems

- Strong networking and storage fundamentals

- Strong written and verbal communication skills for team collaboration, customer support, and documentation

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a flexible environment

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with MySQL and basic database administration

- Experience with web support tools: Apache, Nginx, Tomcat

- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios) and logging platforms (e.g., Splunk, Elastic)

- Experience with Git, Puppet, and Ansible or similar tools

- Familiarity with vCenter or other hypervisor environments

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $60,000 - $84,968 Commensurate with experience
