About the Position
The Correctional Health Technician (CHT), under the supervision of the Infection Control Coordinator, provides appropriate support in the infection surveillance, prevention, and control programs. Serves as a CHS infection control resource for internal and external customers.

Job Contributions
Participates in daily activities that ensure implementation of the Infection Control Plan Assists the Infection Control Coordinator in the collection, monitoring, and trending of statistical data and information pertaining to the incidence of infectious and communicable diseases Ensures accurate and timely reports are submitted to the Infection Control Coordinator Monitors compliance of communicable disease treatment intervention and reports results to the Infection Control Coordinator Assists the Infection Control Coordinator with investigations to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases Conducts daily activities of the CHS Employee Health Program, including but not limited to, review of immune status records, performing respirator fit-testing, tuberculin skin testing (TST), and reading Serves as a resource to CHS staff for compliance with CHS policies and procedures and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing infection control Facilitatesthe implementation of policies and procedures, and OSHA guidelines, pertaining to infection control practices Facilitates processes for completing and filing all communicable disease reports, consistent with local, state, and federal laws and regulations Assists Nurse Managers in promoting optimal infection prevention and control in clinical areas Actively participates in learning and professional activities to keep own skills current Enters data monthly into the Communicable Disease Data Current Years report Assists the Chair of the CHS Infection Control Committee with administrative duties during quarterly meetings Actively participates in the CHS Infection Control Committee Assists the Infection Control Coordinator with the development of an annual status report
Working Conditions
Work is performed inside a jail and requires standing, walking, and bending for extended periods of time throughout the shift Position requires accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasks Position includes day or night shift work, which may include weekends and holidays Travel or floating to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius Must be able to respond to emergencies and maintain CPR certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail access Must complete all required elements of the CHS employee orientation and continuing education process, including successful completion of knowledge and skill-based competencies Must maintain current BLS/CPR/First Aid certification and participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement process
