Job Description
:
- Under immediate supervision, performs duties and functions below journeyman level within the facility trades and maintenance department. These duties are performed under the instruction and review of the Building/Grounds Lead Worker, a tradesman, a Maintenance Equipment Operator, or the maintenance department management staff.
- Assists in cemetery with burials, setting of tombstones, and operating tractor in cemetery maintenance. Assists with summer-related grounds work such as weed control, tree limb removal.
- Performs work order tasks as directed by Chief Engineer or designee. Performs simple repairs to wheelchairs, electric beds, dietary equipment, etc.
- Assists tradesmen (carpenters, plumber, steamfitter, electricians, etc.), as needed, in the performance of a variety of semiskilled work; assists in construction projects, pouring concrete, finishing and clean-up; digs trenches for conduit, cleans and repairs fans, replaces filters, cleans gutters, roof drains and window wells; repairs appliances. .
- Assists maintenance equipment operators in the loading and movement of supplies, furniture, and machinery. Loads and unloads materials. Assists with snow removal.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Required Skills:
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school plus one year of maintenance work experience, preferably associated with the building and mechanical trades and/or heavy equipment operation.
- Technical or trade school desirable.
- Requires working knowledge of construction and maintenance tools, equipment and materials.
- Requires elementary knowledge of one or more of the building and mechanical trades.
- Requires ability to use hand and power tools, operate heavy equipment or perform semiskilled manual work in a safe manner.
- Requires ability to follow oral and written instructions including blueprints and other diagrams.
