Position Summary
The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

This is a nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Review of applications will begin immediately.


The successful candidate should have an interest and commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, scholarship, and professional service to the university and region. Many faculty pursue scholarship and application-focused research with external clients through our nationally-recognized Rapid Center. All engineering and engineering technology programs are accredited by ABET's EAC and ETAC, respectively. The college has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top tier Undergraduate Engineering program for the past several years.


Programs in the school have a strong emphasis focused on applied, Project-Based Learning ( PBL) evidenced by the industry experiences of the faculty. Applicants with laboratory, design and build project experience are highly desired.
The successful candidate should have a commitment to excellence in teaching and applied scholarship, based on the Boyer model of Scholarship. Successful applicants will have proven excellence, or potential, in teaching, scholarship, service, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Many opportunities for service exist both inside and outside the university. Applicants should have an interest and be able to teach at the Bachelor's and Master's levels including thesis supervision and laboratory instruction.
Applicants should have an interest to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in one or more of the following areas: Power Systems, Electric Machines, Power Electronics, Grid Integration.
Applicants with experience in more than one area of need will be reviewed favorably. Applicants with teaching experience at the college level, including lab courses, will be reviewed favorably.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of relevant, full-time industry experience, or documented equivalent, as an engineer and/or scientist/researcher.
  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, is required prior to the starting date.
