Minimum Qualifications
The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences is searching for one or more Assistant/Associate Professors specializing in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology.

An earned doctoral degree in speech-language pathology or related area.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
Applications are encouraged from all qualified candidates. There is a possibility of more than one hire with this search. Options exist for a non-tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor.
For appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates must demonstrate the potential for effective teaching, student mentoring, and conducting research in the area of expertise.
For appointments at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must demonstrate a history of successful teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, student mentoring, research productivity and academic/professional service.
License/Certification Required
Ideal candidates will be eligible for American Speech-Language-Hearing Association ( ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence and North Carolina licensure.
Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences includes fully accredited graduate programs in Athletic Training and Speech-Language Pathology, a new graduate program in Occupational Therapy (full accreditation expected in 2026), an undergraduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and minors in American Sign Language and Communication Sciences and Disorders. Our students are trained to empower people of all ages to improve/restore their functional abilities, fulfill their daily routines and roles, mitigate limitations or disabilities following injury or illness, and live full lives in the context of differing abilities. In addition, the department is home to the Charles and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic, which provides speech, language, hearing, and pediatric occupational therapy services as an outreach to the community and as a primary site for student clinical training. Students who graduate from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences will transition into their respective positions as quality healthcare practitioners with enhanced clinical skills, knowledge, and values. They will be well-prepared to improve the health and wellness of people across the region, state, and world. Appalachian State University's Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) is transforming the health and quality of lives of individuals, families, and communities through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration, and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical outreach. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, bothface-to-face and online, conducting research and seeking external funding,and engaging in university and professional service. Opportunities for directclinical service and clinical supervision may also be available.

Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
ABD Consideration: ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below)
ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
