Position Description

We are seeking an experienced User Experience Consultant with deep SharePoint and Microsoft 365 expertise to support a project team focused on delivering functional support across customer services, business process optimization, and IT enhancements. The role will involve designing, configuring, implementing, and managing a SharePoint environment (SP2019/SP Online), while optimizing usability, accessibility, and user experience (UX) across collaborative Microsoft 365 tools. The consultant will also train and support end-users in effective adoption and best practices for content management and collaboration.

This position plays a critical role in helping customers achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness through intuitive, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences. The consultant will ensure quality content creation, continuity, and records management while maintaining visual and functional consistency across enterprise portals in compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards and data protection requirements.

This project offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact by shaping how collaborative tools and IT solutions drive customer experience, process improvement, and organizational effectiveness. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of experts in change management, communications, technical facilitation, data analysis, and human-centered design to deliver solutions that enhance engagement, accessibility, and collaboration across the enterprise.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, configure, and manage SharePoint environments (SP2019/SP Online) within an enterprise network
  • Integrate SharePoint with M365 applications to optimize workflows, permissions, rules, and business processes
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility and data security requirements, including Section 508 and PII safeguarding
  • Design, test, and refine front-end user interfaces to improve usability, accessibility, and overall user experience (UX) within SharePoint and M365 environments
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into actionable and user-centered SharePoint solutions
  • Develop and design technical documentation, user guides, and knowledge-based articles
  • Provide advisory support and training through desk-side, small group, and virtual sessions (covering both basic and advanced SharePoint/DOD365 functionality)
  • Support broader project team objectives in areas such as:
    • Customer experience and process improvement
    • Organizational change management
    • Data analysis and workforce performance improvement
    • Strategic communications and branding
    • Stakeholder and employee engagement
    • Human-centered design development
    • Enterprise portal design consistency, content management, and visual branding alignment across sites
    • Development of digital dashboards and visual reporting tools to support leadership decision-making
  • Own accountability for project outcomes, aligning work to client goals, offering strategic guidance, and building trust-based client relationships
  • Support business growth efforts, generating and closing new business opportunities
Requirements
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Five (5)+ years of experience in:
    • SharePoint administration and configuration (SP2019/SP Online)
    • M365 integration, permissions management, rules/flows setup
    • Developing documentation and translating requirements into user solutions
    • Delivering beginner to advanced SharePoint training (in-person and virtual)
    • Designing and implementing intuitive user experiences (UI/UX) and accessible front-end interfaces in compliance with Section 508 standards
  • CompTIA A+, MS-900 (M365 Fundamentals), or ITIL 4.0 certification preferred but not required
  • Project Management Certification(s) (e.g., PMP) preferred but not required
  • Experience supporting government, defense, or federal projects preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of collaborative tool governance and experience with enterprise-wide adoption strategies
  • Experience applying human-centered design principles to digital collaboration tools and enterprise portals
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills to drive customer and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts through visual storytelling, mockups, or prototypes that enhance user understanding and adoption
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a business style for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Flexible, adaptive mindset with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes, and often ambiguous client environments
  • Willing and able to travel to client sites within the Washington, DC, and Baltimore metro areas; occasional travel beyond these regions (up to 5%) may be required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, now and in the future, without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Compensation

The projected annual salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $160,000. Actual compensation and starting salaries are determined based on various factors, including the education, experience, knowledge, skills, certifications, and clearance level of the candidate, and internal equity. Once at The Clearing, movement through pay bands is based on performance. Base-annual salary is just one component of The Clearing's total compensation philosophy and approach. Physical and Mental Requirements

While performing duties of this job, an employee may be required to perform any, or all of the following: attend meetings in and out of the office, travel (sometimes extensively); occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing); ability to effectively use computers and other electronic and standard office equipment; and occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is primarily sedentary and involves sitting for several hours at a time. Occasionally walking, climbing stairs, and standing occur in this role. Additionally, this job requires certain mental demands, including the ability to use judgment, withstand moderate amounts of stress, and maintain attention to detail.
