SUMMARY

The Digital Accessibility Specialist is responsible for leading and managing college-wide compliance with the 2024 web accessibility regulations and applicable standards (including WCAG 2.1 Level AA). This role ensures that digital content, systems, and technologies are accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities.

This position requires a highly detail-oriented and task-driven professional who can independently manage complex projects, prioritize competing demands, and implement sustainable accessibility practices across the institution.

***This is a casual (non benefit eligible, part time (less than 29hrs/week), temporary position through 12/31/26.***

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and coordinate institutional compliance efforts related to the 2024 web accessibility regulations.
  • Conduct accessibility audits and evaluations of websites, documents (PDF, Word, PowerPoint), applications, and digital tools.
  • Remediate inaccessible digital content and provide guidance on accessible design and development practices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accessibility policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Manage and track large-scale accessibility projects, including timelines, deliverables, and progress reporting.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and departments to ensure accessibility is integrated into workflows and digital content creation.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to employees on accessibility best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Stay current with evolving accessibility standards, regulations, and technologies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and institutional resource on digital accessibility.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience managing projects of a significant scope and complexity.
  • Familiarity with WCAG and similar digital accessibility requirements.
  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to accessibility and digital documents.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., WAVE,NVDA, etc.).
  • Experience remediating PDFs and documents using tools such as Adobe Acrobat or Grackle.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve accessibility barriers.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to develop, propose, and implement accessibility solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-faceted projects.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.
