About the Role

The Senior Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program Manager is an experienced risk professional who plays a leadership role in maintaining, growing, and maturing Symetra's ERM program. The Senior ERM Program Manager proactively partners with risk managers across the company to develop, enhance, and monitor governance and risk management protocols that support Symetra's strategic goals and priorities. This person is viewed as a go-to resource and trusted partner by management and risk managers across the company with a deep understanding of the company's ERM Framework, top risks, and how these relate to Symetra's key priorities, vision, and business initiatives. The Senior ERM Program Manager has a high degree of autonomy and drives for processes that are efficient and effective.

What you will do



  • Takes the lead to draft, edit, update, socialize, and drive the implementation of current and new enterprise governance and risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Seeks necessary input and buy-in from subject matter experts.
  • Enhances and is a champion of enterprise risk management at Symetra including the ERM Policy and Framework and the risk taxonomy.
  • Drives partnerships with risk management functions and business unit leaders across the organization to identify and assess risks and related mitigation strategies.
  • Maintains Symetra's risk taxonomy, risk assessment framework, and other risk analyses including but not limited to Symetra's climate risk assessment and segregation of duties assessment.
  • Takes initiative to monitor the risk landscape and identify emerging risks and then escalates as needed to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements risk reporting to be presented at the executive level that provides a comprehensive view of risks facing Symetra and their relationship to tolerances and limits and Symetra's strategy and vision.
  • Prepares and in some cases presents risk management materials and reporting packages for key meetings and stakeholders including Enterprise Risk Committee meetings.
  • Manages the preparation of Symetra's annual Own Risk Solvency Assessment (ORSA) Report and coordinates with management and risk managers to gather their input.
  • Oversees the annual corporate insurance renewal process, recommends changes to coverage as needed, and drives towards operational efficiency in related processes.
  • Stays current with developments related to ERM, sharing knowledge with others and keeping team members and management appropriately updated on any findings and related recommendations.
  • Takes a leadership role in ad-hoc projects and utilizes their background and network to facilitate coordination and collaboration between functions. Represents ERM in cross-functional projects and discussions. Able to manage complex projects end-to-end with minimal oversight.

Compensation

Salary Range:$103,300 - $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus programs

Who you are



  • A four-year degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience (ERM, Audit, Compliance, etc.) including at least 3 years of direct ERM experience.
  • 10-15 years of cumulative, relevant experience
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Innovative and creative in resolving issues and improving processes.
  • Proactive and able to operate autonomously and exercise appropriate decision making authority with minimal guidance.
  • Effective in collaborating cross-functionally and building relationships with others.
  • Skilled at maintaining trusted relationships with Symetra leaders and establishing credibility at the highest levels of management.
  • Ability to represent the views of the Chief Risk Officer and Deputy Chief Risk Officer.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and plan tasks and workstreams.
  • Technical knowledge of ERM frameworks, risk appetite, other risk management concepts.
  • Goal oriented and passionate with a track record of driving through to completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace and adapt to change.
  • Experience in the financial services industry, particularly with insurance risks.
