Description

Purpose and Scope

Person is responsible for the development of pharmaceutical formulations by collaborating with others and taking into account department timelines and scientific objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities



  • Development of pharmaceutical formulations utilizing Quality by Design (QbD) and risk assessment concepts.
  • Evaluate physical and chemical characterization studies on experimental batches to develop new and improve existing products.
  • Prepare placebo and active formulations for evaluation in drug-device combination products.
  • Assist in writing documents for regulatory submissions.
  • Source raw materials and work with outside vendors.
  • Evaluate formulations for functionality and propose additional formulations.
  • Participate in required annual hazardous waste training. Hazardous waste involvement may include, but is not limited to container and tank management and inspections, generation of hazardous waste as a part of production or sampling processes and transfer of hazardous waste between lab procedure area, satellite accumulation and storage. Respond to spills per the Chemical Spill Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Introductory knowledge of:

    • Intellectual property
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Drug-device combination product development


  • Basic knowledge of:

    • Process scale-up concepts
    • Formulation development concepts for specific types of pharmaceutical formulations


  • Demonstrated proficiency regarding:

    • GDP, GLP, and cGMPs.
    • Data interpretation and statistical analysis
    • Safe laboratory practices, chemical handling, and equipment operation


  • Moderate oral communication and established documentation skills. Cross-departmental communication
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Education & Experience



  • BS or Masters in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biological Engineering required combined with BS: 4+ or Masters: 2+ year's pharmaceutical laboratory work experience or equivalent.



Working Conditions



  • Office, laboratory, pilot scale, and manufacturing settings. Will be exposed to solvents, bio-hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and pharmaceuticals.


Compensation and Benefits



  • Annual Pay Range: $75,000 to $85,000

Education
Bachelors of Chemical Engineering (required)

Experience
4 years: *BS or Masters in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biological Engineering required combined with BS: 4+ or Masters: 2+ year's pharmaceutical laboratory work experience or equivalent. (required)
