This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

We're hiring a motivated Software Engineer III who is passionate about technology, eager to learn, and driven by quality. Join us in building cutting-edge, agentic, workflow-driven search and discovery platforms that power enterprise knowledge graphs and AI-assisted search experiences.

As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to building intuitive search interfaces and robust backend services that enable Blue Origin teams to discover and access critical data within seconds. As part of our team, you'll apply your skills in Python, Java, and JavaScript to develop scalable, intelligent systems that make information more accessible and actionable. You will work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions that support our transition to mass production operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing responsive frontend interfaces for search and data discovery applications using modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue
  • Contribute to backend API development supporting search functionality, knowledge graph queries, and data integration services
  • Support integration with AI/ML systems including RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) capabilities and enterprise search APIs like Sinequa
  • Work under guidance to deploy applications within AWS containers, utilizing services like Amazon ECS, EKS, or Fargate
  • Assist in developing data visualization components for search results and knowledge graph exploration
  • Learn and apply unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, PyUnit, pytest) to ensure reliability of search APIs and applications
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand search and discovery requirements and translate them into user-facing solutions
  • Support troubleshooting of search performance, data pipeline integration, and application issues
  • Participate in version control, testing, and documentation of search platform applications
  • Stay current with search technologies, knowledge graph methodologies, and AI/ML integration patterns

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years software development experience
  • Proficiency with Large Language Models (LLMs) for code generation, debugging, and development assistance
  • Understanding of frontend technologies, particularly JavaScript frameworks (React preferred)
  • Experience with backend development using Python, Java, or Node.js
  • Understanding of database design and management (SQL, NoSQL)
  • Experience with cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
  • Good problem-solving skills and willingness to learn about complex search and AI systems
  • Familiarity with version control (Git), testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development methodologies
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with search technologies (Elasticsearch, Solr) or enterprise search platforms
  • Familiarity with knowledge graph technologies or graph databases (Neo4j, Neptune)
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts, particularly RAG or information retrieval systems
  • Experience with data visualization libraries (D3.js, Plotly) or 3D rendering (Three.js)
  • Experience in aerospace or manufacturing industries

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $148,014.00-$207,218.55

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
