THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Activities Specialist, you will have a vital role in the rehabilitation and well-being of inmates. Your responsibilities will include organizing, instructing, and supervising leisure time activities, inmate work crews, and sports at SCI Greene. You will also be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and teaching programs that cater to the diverse interests and abilities of inmates in areas such as sports, games, creative and performing arts, and social recreation. This role involves coaching or assisting with various sports, such as basketball, soccer, and powerlifting, as well as demonstrating basic sports techniques and fitness equipment. Additionally, you will be responsible for supervising inmate organizations and self-help groups within the institution.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree with major course work in recreation and physical education; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
