POSITION SPECIFICS

Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) is seeking an Assistant Director (Student Wellness Specialist - Supervisor) to provide creative, energetic, and strategic leadership for prevention and wellness initiatives, including alcohol and drug prevention and intervention services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the delivery of individual health promotion and education services for alcohol, cannabis, problem gambling, and nicotine cessation for all students.

  • Collaborate with colleagues within Student Affairs (e.g., Residence Life, Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response, and Counseling and Psychological Services) to ensure high-quality services.

  • Supervise four full-time staff who deliver health promotion and education services for alcohol, cannabis, and nicotine cessation for students.

  • Recruit and train new staff.

  • Assist with and provide leadership for research-based wellness and health promotion initiatives, including alcohol and drug-related initiatives.

  • Oversee and provide leadership for the assessment/evaluation of drug and alcohol educational services.

  • Coordinate and conduct alcohol education workshops for fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and academic classes.

  • Assist with the implementation of Penn State Safe & Aware, an online educational module about alcohol and sexual misconduct.

  • Serve on and actively participate in committees such as the HPW Leadership Team, the Coalition to Address Relationship and Sexual Violence, the Committee for Substance Awareness and Prevention, and other committees as requested.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeof and experience implementing individual health promotion services.

  • Familiarity with and knowledge of alcohol and substance use harm reduction strategies, such as the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students program.

  • Experience supervising and training staff who deliver alcohol and drug interventions, including training staff to use motivational interviewing techniques.

  • Knowledge of program/services assessment and evaluation.

  • Ability tomaintain high standards for evidence-based practice set by relevant professional organizations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and have flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands.

  • Ability to work with a schedule that may include occasional evening and weekend hours.

  • Ethical decision-making and the ability to be a flexible and collaborative team member.

  • Ability to foster a positive climate among a group of staff and students.

Preferred Education

  • Master's degree or higher in public health, counseling, psychology, higher education, or related field

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

Health Promotion and Wellness is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides health promotion programs, services, and events for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The mission of HPW is to cultivate a community that supports student success, well-being, and the pursuit of lifelong health.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
