About the Role:

Join the forefront of industrial innovation as a Senior Electrical Engineering Lead within Alcoa's Breakthrough Technologies Team. This high-impact role is central to the development, deployment, and optimization of advanced manufacturing systems that produce proprietary electrodes powering the revolutionary ELYSIS aluminum smelting technology. You will also lead the electrical design, automation, and reliability strategy for Astraea systems, driving their transition from pilot to full-scale commercialization.

  • Acquire full accountability for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all power systems and electrical infrastructure at the Alcoa Technical Center (ATC).

  • Champion a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement across all electrical engineering initiatives.

  • Lead the design and proposal of advanced power distribution systems, automation upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements aligned with Alcoa standards and building codes.

  • Spearhead modernization efforts across multiple Alcoa sites, improving system performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Direct multidisciplinary teams and external contractors in troubleshooting, commissioning, and executing complex electrical projects.

  • Maintain and refine power system modeling using ETAP simulation software, ensuring optimal load flow and system integrity.

  • Manage the expansion and performance of the Maintenance & Reliability electrical team supporting Alcoa's breakthrough technology programs.

  • Collaborate with asset owners to assess equipment health and implement targeted reliability and automation improvements.

  • Lead high-voltage audit programs to ensure full compliance with Alcoa's safety and operational policies.

  • Analyze fault logs and operational data to identify trends and drive systemic improvements.

  • Direct complex projects involving engineering firms, integrators, and suppliers to ensure seamless commissioning and operational readiness.

  • Deliver clear, actionable functional specifications and ensure alignment across all stakeholders.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance control system architecture, automation methodologies, and engineering processes.

What you can bring to this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • 10 years of experience in industrial power systems, control systems, commissioning, and reliability engineering.

  • Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and external partners in high-stakes engineering environments.

  • Advanced proficiency in Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and industrial programming languages such as ladder logic and structured text.

  • Strong analytical mindset with a track record of solving complex technical challenges.

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative-driven environment.

We develop new technologies with our Breakthrough Technologies team that has the potential to impact the life of millions of people and foster the sustainable footprint from Alcoa to the world. It was here where we developed the technology recently announced in partnership with Rio Tinto, called ELYSIS, where we will produce aluminum with ZERO emission of greenhouse gases. In fact, we will actually be generating oxygen to our atmosphere during the aluminum production process- a revolution to the aluminum industry!
