Continuation past the termlengthdiscussed willbebasedonuniversityneed,performance,and/oravailabilityoffunding.POSITION SPECIFICS Teaching Faculty Positions in Artificial Intelligence The Department of Informatics and Intelligent Systems (I&IS) in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for multiple open-rank, teaching faculty positions in artificial intelligence (AI) beginning in January or July of 2026 at the University Park campus located in State College, Pennsylvania. The I&IS department is home to Penn State's newly launched undergraduate B.S. degree in Artificial Intelligence Methods and Applications (AIMA), and these positions will be instrumental in its success. These are non-tenure-line term appointments with an excellent possibility of renewal as multi-year appointments. Fully remote appointments are not permitted for these hires. Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level and a desire to collaborate with the I&IS department faculty and the IST faculty on curricular innovation and development efforts. A commitment to teaching learners at all levels and from all backgrounds is essential. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in residential, online, and/or hybrid modes. Qualified faculty may also teach graduate courses. University service is also expected of teaching faculty. The faculty member hired for this position will be expected to teach introductory to advanced courses on topics including, but not limited to: AI foundations; automated problem solving; causal modelling; computer vision; generative AI methods and applications, human-centered AI; knowledge representation and inference; machine learning; multi-agent systems; natural language processing; responsible, trustworthy, and explainable AI (RAI/XAI); and/or capstone/practicum courses connecting AI to real-world applications. Applicants must hold a PhD or master's degree in informatics, information sciences and technology, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, cognitive science, statistics, or a related discipline by the appointment start date with Penn State. Candidates will be considered for a teaching faculty rank commensurate with their education and experience in accordance with Penn State policy AC21. Applicants will include the following materials with their application: i) cover letter detailing your qualifications for the position; ii) teaching statement; iii) curriculum vitae; and iv) contact information for at least three professional references. Please limit your teaching statement to two pages and provide a description of your teaching philosophy, experience, and the pedagogical techniques you use to engage students. Please also indicate the specific courses from our program that you would be excited to teach, as well as any new courses you are interested in developing.
