Job Details:
The Townsend School of Music at Mercer University seeks an experienced and versatile Assistant Professor of Music in Music Production. A successful candidate will teach courses in the music production field, supervise student internships, advise music production students, create and maintain a DAW lab, oversee the music production curriculum, supervise adjunct faculty as needed, and work closely with personnel at Mercer Music at Capricorn.

Responsibilities:

A typical teaching load at Mercer University includes 70% teaching, 10% creative/research, and 20% service activity.

Teaching - 70%
  • Teach music production courses
    • Teach courses in the music production and music business degree curriculum
    • Work with undergraduate faculty on curriculum changes and modifications as needed
    • Develop and oversee curriculum syllabi content for each music production course
  • Serve as director of Mercer's Institute for Music Production
    • Work closely with Mercer Music at Capricorn for coordination of classrooms, labs, workspace, and internships
    • Maintain the music production labs and equipment (licenses, repair, purchasing)
    • Coordinate and supervise the rental of Capricorn studio incubators
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned according to the candidate's strengths and the needs of the institution.


Creative/Research - 10%
  • Maintain a professional music industry profile, with attendance at conferences and conventions nationally, regionally, locally, and on campus as the calendar permits.
  • Maintain an active research and presentation profile.


Service - 20%
  • Provide academic advising to music production and music business majors.
  • Participate in faculty governance within the School of Music and the University.
  • Actively recruit music production students for the School of Music.
  • Locate, recruit, and supervise adjunct instructors in music production as needed


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a master's in music or MBA (with a master's in music preferred) from an accredited college/university, along with prior teaching experience and experience in the music production industry.

Additionally, candidates:
  • Will be an experienced musician and teacher with a commitment to liberal arts education.
  • Will have demonstrated commensurate professional experience, along with evidence of successful teaching and creative activity/research.
  • Will have experience in the latest music industry technology, including a working knowledge of DAW (digital audio workstations), Avid Pro Tools, and Logic.
  • Must show evidence of successful administrative experience.


Appointment

This is a tenure-track appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
