Koch Ag & Energy Solutions (KAES) is seeking an Environmental Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2026 in Wever, IA!

Our Team

As an Environmental Engineering Intern with Koch Fertilizer, you'll work alongside our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at our facility. This hands-on role offers an opportunity to gain exposure to environmental regulations, data analysis, and compliance management across multiple programs - including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC).

What You Will Do

  • Support Environmental Compliance: Assist with maintaining compliance with environmental permits and regulatory programs (CAA, CWA, RCRA, SPCC). Help prepare reports and documentation for local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Build and refine tools to analyze environmental data such as emissions, wastewater, or waste generation. Support preparation of reports including Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Tier II, and Emissions Inventory submissions.
  • Monitoring & Inspections: Participate in environmental inspections, audits, and monitoring programs (e.g., stormwater, visible emissions, waste management). Support sampling plans to verify compliance with permit conditions.
  • Incident & Risk Management: Assist with environmental incident investigations, including data collection, root-cause analysis, and corrective action tracking. Support remediation and spill prevention initiatives.
  • Documentation & Recordkeeping: Help maintain environmental records, logs, and databases in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Training & Communication: Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and EHS staff to promote environmental awareness, safe chemical handling, and pollution prevention practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in EHS projects aimed at reducing risk, improving compliance systems, and enhancing environmental performance.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program or alternative education program (e.g., 4-year college program, 2-year technical college, certificate program, upskilling program, etc.).
  • Eligible for full-time employment on or before Summer 2028.
  • Pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa transfer or sponsorship.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Prior internship or project experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with major environmental regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA).
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel or other tools for data tracking and analysis.
