The Department of Electrical Engineering currently has 9 tenured/tenure track faculty members, 1 teaching faculty and 2 research professors. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering accredited by ABET, a Master of Science degree, a Master of Engineering degree, and a PhD degree in Engineering and Applied Science. We maintain excellent teaching and research programs in electromagnetics, power and energy systems, medical technologies, embedded systems, VLSI, information systems, machine learning, neuro-engineering, and quantum computing.

The Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the level of Instructor or Senior Instructor. The major responsibility (80%) of the individual in this position will be teaching courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the department and developing curricula. There is a particular emphasis on courses involving electronic hardware, hardware/software interfaces, and experiential learning through projects. The nominal teaching load for the position is four courses per semester with some flexibility regarding a mix of lecture and laboratory courses. Teaching assignments may include online, evening and Friday courses. The secondary responsibility (20%) is department service and research. The successful candidate will need to remain current with the rapid changes in the field and contribute to the academic success of students through advising and student project supervision. Research collaborations with other faculty and students are encouraged. Opportunities will be available for external professional development. The position is anticipated to start in the spring term 2026.

What you will do:

Teach 6-8 courses per academic year.
Ensure department infrastructure for teaching is up to date and operational.
Mentor student projects and share expertise with students outside the classroom.
Perform individual student advising and mentoring as necessary.
Update curricula and create new curricula as required.
Support educational and research activities in the department.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

MS in Electrical Engineering or related technical field

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

Strong interest in teaching undergraduate courses
Passion for mentoring and supervising undergraduate student projects
Experience advising and mentoring students
Teaching experience at the undergraduate level
Experience in program and course development
Experience in industry
Experience with hardware and system integration

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff at all levels throughout the institution.

Conditions of Employment

Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

This position has the potential to follow a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

Senior Instructor $75,000 - $79.000 per 9-month academic year. Additional salary for summer months can be sourced from research funds or for additional duties.

Instructor $70,000 - $75,000 per 9-month academic year. Additional salary for summer months can be sourced from research funds or for additional duties.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
