Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Research Engineer.

The Sr. Research Engineer (Bioinformatics) is a member of the Keating Lab (Molecular Science Core) and will be responsible for software development, maintenance, and troubleshooting mainly around the large-scale implementation of whole genome sequencing analytics in the research, translational, and clinical setting in the Department of Surgery led by Dr. Brendan Keating.

Job Responsibilities:

Development, engineering, maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab developed software, including basic statistical and machine learning algorithms, data processing and QC pipelines, data visualization, graphical user interface, and clinical interpretation software.
Spearheading the development new software directions including incorporation of AI / ML into lab tools.
Contributes to fundamental method development including statistical, machine learning, and optimization based approaches.
Provides systems support for the Keating Lab, including first level troubleshooting of database and software-related problems.
Supports lead data organization across flat files and databases.
Supports lab members execute and scale large genomic analyses.
Regularly presents and summarizes results to team members at lab meetings and helps lead specialized team meetings dedicated to algorithm development.
Supports the PI functionally manage team members including writing, curating, and prioritizing task lists for bioinformatics staff (including Bioinformatics analysts) and trainees in the group who are engaged in software development.
Supports with recruiting new members to the group and help with tracking performance.
Candidate should have experience with single-nuclei RNA sequencing analyses. It would be advantage if the candidate has experience with the wet-lab protocols for these snRNAseq techniques
Candidate should have experience with single-cell methylation analyses and analyses thereof.
Candidate should have experience with Python, and similar coding languages

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Education: B.S. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computer / Electrical Engineering, or related quantitative fields
Experience: B.S. / M.S. and 5+ years of experience with sequencing data Experience creating sequencing analysis pipelines
Ability to work independently while collaborating and assisting the team in its common research goals
Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects is necessary
Experience with software engineering best practices including continuous integration
Experience in Unix/Linux systems including HPC and cloud environments
Facility with R and Python
Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and oral English
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of cancer biology, genetics, and genomics

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. that includes 3+ years (including dissertation work)

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.95 - $146,280.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
