Are you seeking to join a hard-working, passionate team? Do you have an eye for planning and detail that can help Communications see the big picture? If so, you could be the highly motivated, conscientious and professional Corporate Communications Specialist Sandia needs.

Sandia Internal Communications is searching for and outstanding communications professional to serve as a traffic coordinator, writer and editor.

The selected candidate will coordinate workflows from intake to delivery, working with teams to set milestones and deadlines for tasks related to campaigns within the Communications portfolio. This person will ensure on-time delivery by coordinating resources and schedules and facilitating communication between teams.

One's insights into writing for different audiences will ensure that messages connect with readers and inspire. One's editing abilities will be essential to sustaining high-quality communications for the Labs.

Candidates will develop positive and productive relationships with partners and be seen as an important resource in delivering exceptional communications. In addition to coordinating workflows, writing and editing, one should be able to prioritize work, meet strict deadlines, coordinate multiple projects, and adapt to emerging information and circumstances while helping their colleagues do the same.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Plan and schedule project workflows, set project milestones and deadlines for tasks, track and monitor progress, and report progress, metrics, bottlenecks and potential delays to management.
  • Collaborate with management and communications specialists to determine specific communication needs, including message development and delivery, and how best to implement official communications.
  • Work closely with management to assign tasks to Communications teams, balance workloads and meet project timelines.
  • Act as the point of contact for project-related issues, facilitating clear communication between Communication teams and Labs partners.
  • Collaborate on and coordinate projects with a talented team working in design, video, photography, animation and other creative fields.
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing workflows to boost efficiency and productivity.
  • Serve as an editor and/or writer for Sandia's official internal communications channels and aid in the development of copy for internal readers.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range

$62,400 - $140,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A bachelor's degree in a journalism, communications, public relations, advertising, marketing, English, technical writing, business administration, science, engineering, information technology or related field, or the equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience to a traffic administration role, preferably within or adjacent to a communications or marketing organization.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Demonstrated excellence in writing in AP style and experience, creating a wide variety of content.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and specialized traffic administration/project management software, workflow tools and reporting dashboards, in particular Service Now.
  • Certifications in public relations, project management, change management or other communications skills.
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple projects, timelines and priorities with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to use metrics to identify what success looks like and assess results.
  • Aptitude for identifying potential issues, such as overlapping deadlines or resource constraints, and developing solutions.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills with the proven ability to initiate and complete work independently and in collaboration with multiple levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to respond quickly and productively to last-minute programming or project changes.
  • Experience working in and bringing clarity to environments with complex, ambiguous, or constantly evolving communications requirements.
  • The demonstrated ability to aid in the development and implementation of strategic communications plans.
  • Experience with website content management tools (e.g., WordPress), email communication tools and internal communications platforms.
  • An understanding of internal communications metrics and how to use them to drive communications strategy.
  • The ability to multitask, set priorities and deliver strong results.
  • Experience developing and implementing new processes.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and Confluence.
  • Knowledge of Sandias programs, missions and technical accomplishments.
  • The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values.
About Our Team

The Sandia National Laboratories Communications team is responsible for all public and Labswide communications functions for a $4 billion national security lab with more than 16,000 employees and major sites in New Mexico and California. These positions are contributors to a diverse and engaged laboratories communications team. The Internal Communications Department serves as the point of contact for critical and conventional internal communications from executive and inspirational messaging to corporate and operational messaging. The department maintains the primary Labswide employee communications channels and supports program communicators who partner with organizations across the Labs.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
