Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

As our Legal Support Assistant, you will perform various entry-level administrative support duties of limited complexity with established guidelines and procedures within the justice system. You will be responsible for answering phone inquiries, handling case files, and entering case information into our database system.

We Require

  • One year of experience performing specialized clerical and customer service duties

  • High school diploma or GED

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Clerical and/or customer service experience in a law office, judicial, or law enforcement environment

Job Contributions

  • Organize case files for close-out and storage; enter case disposition and close-out information into the Maricopa County Attorney's Office internal database

  • Enter and retrieve case information from various databases, including the Motor Vehicle Department, Justice Court database, and Superior Court database, among others

  • Pull case files for the court calendar and file documents with the court

  • Perform criminal history/criminal records checks and bureau-specific data entry

  • Maintain a current Terminal Operator Certification with the Department of Public Safety

  • Assist with document delivery runs between downtown buildings

  • Provide reception relief/coverage; answer multi-line telephone - answer general information questions, transfer calls, and take messages

  • Review electronic minute entry folder; retrieve and distribute electronic pleadings and minute entries

  • Update discovery log, upload discovery, and scan documents

Working Conditions

  • Mostly office setting in high-volume, fast-paced environment

  • Requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities

  • Ability to travel to and from various county locations for meetings and trainings, utilizing personal or county vehicle

  • Ability to lift boxes and pull a mailcart weighing 25 - 40 pounds

  • Hybrid and alternative work schedules are available upon successful completion of the 6-12-month probationary period
