Director, Quality - Aerospace Manufacturing
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Quality to lead the quality organization for our aerospace manufacturing and processing operations. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with industry standards such as AS9100 and Nadcap, managing audits, maintaining high aerospace customer ratings, and driving a culture of quality and continuous improvement across the organization.
The Director of Quality will oversee all Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions, ensuring seamless coordination between quality systems, inspections, and customer requirements. A strong engineering background and experience in regulated aerospace environments are highly preferred.
This role is identified as requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; therefore, qualified candidates must meet the definition of a U.S. Person (per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15):

Essential Functions
- Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of both the Quality Assurance and Quality Control departments, managing and supporting the QA and QC Leaders to ensure alignment with business and customer objectives.
- Mentor and develop the QA and QC teams to drive accountability, process consistency, and technical excellence across the quality organization.
- Ensure robust implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with AS9100, Nadcap, and applicable aerospace customer requirements.
- Provide oversight for internal and external audit programs, driving timely and effective closure of audit findings.
- Effectively lead and oversee CAPA activities, ensuring effective root cause analysis, resolution, and verification.
- Monitor and manage aerospace customer quality ratings, relationships, and scorecards, working proactively to maintain high performance and rapid response to issues.
- Serve as the primary quality liaison with key aerospace customers, ensuring requirements are understood and met throughout the organization.
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Program Management teams to ensure product quality from design through delivery.
- Lead quality planning, risk assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives using industry best practices and data-driven decision-making.
Required Education and Work Experience
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing is required
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or other relevant technical field is required
- Advanced training or certification in the management of Quality Systems is required; FMEA certification is advantageous
- Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement knowledge is required: Six Sigma green belt or black belt preferred
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in quality management, demonstrating career progression that includes leadership of inspection, auditing, and supervision of medium- to large-sized teams of first-line supervisors and hourly personnel. Experience leading continuous improvement programs is expected.
Other Required Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of AS9100, FAA standards, federal regulations, etc.
- Comprehensive knowledge of inspection protocol for raw materials, machined parts, assemblies, and painted/coated applications
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective quality procedures
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and specifications; ability to correctly read measuring instrumentation including tape measure, mics, calipers, etc.
- Understanding of nondestructive testing (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection), precision machining, and metal finishing in an industry regulated by precise engineering specifications, customer contract requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities to appropriately handle unexpected challenges
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, securing employee and company records, and demonstrating integrity in communications and actions
- Self-management skills including efficiency, sense of urgency, ability to adapt and respond to unexpected circumstances, and ability to juggle multiple projects, competing priorities, and meet concurrent deadlines
- Leadership skills evidenced by talent selection, retention, and personnel development
- Comprehensive knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies including six sigma (certification is preferred), kaizen, lean manufacturing, etc. is preferred
- Exceptional professional communication skills, both written and verbal (English) are required
- Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills to include pivot tables, vlookups, charts, graphs, and other formulas
- Computer proficiency including ERP systems, SQL or similar report writing, electronic data storage and security and workflow administration is required
- Strong analytical skills, detail orientation, and organizational skills are essential
Physical Demands and Work Environment
To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, stand for long periods to perform job duties
- Occasionally lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material handling equipment
- Occasionally reach overhead and reach out or down to floor level to perform duties
- Occasionally climb steps, stairs, or ladders
- Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
- Frequently uses hand or fingers to manually inspect parts, tighten hardware & fixtures, and operate computer and peripheral equipment
- Accurately distinguish colors to on sensors, indicators, and color-variable dashboards
- Visual acuity to interpret readings on gauges and other measuring devices
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combination of office setting and manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:
- Excessive noise (hearing protection required)
- Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (occasionally)
- Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
- Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (regularly)
The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and use of safety footwear is required
Travel
Occasional travel is required. Some overnight travel may be required. Travel may be by air and/or ground transportation so a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record to meet insurance standards is required.
