Essential Job Duties |
The Assistant Director is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track staff (
EPS) position. As a key member of the Academic Success Center (
ASC) team, the Assistant Director has responsibility for assisting the Director by taking an active role in all major functions of the
ASC, including teaching, training, planning, assessing, and promoting its programs.
Duties include but are not limited to: Administration (40%)
- Independent administrative oversight of the Undergraduate and Graduate Writing Centers (UWC & GWC), including hiring, scheduling and providing training for all writing and speaking tutors
- Assess tutoring results by maintaining data entry and collection procedures, analyzing and reporting data to various groups on a regular basis
- Work with the Director and the rest of the ASC team to formulate and implement ASC policies and procedures.
Programming (30%)
- Provide workshops, classroom visits, and other resources for writing and speaking across the curriculum
- Independent responsibility for facilitating partnerships with key stakeholders including, but not limited to Libraries, Graduate School, First Year Writing Program, English as a Second Language Program, and the Campus Writing and Speaking Program
- Represent the unit to outside constituents at the Director's request
Teaching (20%)
- Teach a one-credit writing and speaking tutor-training course each semester
Supervision (10%)
- Supervise graduate assistant to aid in the training and development of writing and speaking consultants
- Provide strategic direction to graduate assistant, ensuring that their work aligns with departmental objectives

- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |

Other Required Qualifications |
- Writing and/or speaking tutoring and/or teaching experience.
- Comfort with the use of technology for data collection, assessment, and presentations.
- Familiar with recent research and scholarship on writing and/or speaking tutoring/support

Preferred Qualifications |
- Masters Degree in English with concentrations in Rhetoric and Composition or Literature
- Master of Science Degree in Technical Communication
- Teaching and/or administrative experience at the college level. Experience in writing consultant training and/or methods of assessing academic support programs.
