Description

Your Role:

The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of cutting-edge IoT and connectivity solutions for modern cell production systems. As part of an agile team, key responsibilities include gathering user requirements, defining system functionality and writing code in various languages to support the Cell Factory Software. Collaborating with interdisciplinary and international teams, the Software Engineer translates concepts into scalable code help shape the future of cell production. This role also participates in software quality assurance activities to ensure that software design effectively meets requirements and has been efficiently verified and validated prior to its release.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Work as part of agile team to write clean, maintainable, and scalable C++ code while exploring and adopting new technologies.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
  • Improve and create new functionalities for connectivity devices, ensuring synchronization of internal and external systems.
  • Implement software quality assurance tools or methods to automate integration and regression tests to improve the overall quality of software.
  • Design, create, document, and execute test cases and test plans.
  • Create documentation for the software, including code comments, flowcharts, and diagrams, to help others understand and maintain the code.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, protocols, and data formats to ensure seamless integration between software systems.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary and international teams, including IT, Quality, Service, and Marketing.


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or Natural Science (e.g. Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or similar); A minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-tech environment with a fundamental understanding of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations; Or a combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent understanding of service-oriented software development and experience in developing software for connectivity, integration or synchronization.
  • Exceptionally good knowledge of modern C++ (preferably C++17 or newer) and interest in continuing to develop in this language. Alternatively, experience in Java development is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of the following technologies: Typescript, Go, message-based systems like NATS or MQTT, cloud technologies and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. However, we are also open to candidates who are eager to learn these technologies.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills. Ability to break down requirements and design them into manageable increments and pieces.
  • Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
  • Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Occasional travel to Germany to align with project team (1-2 trips per year); Occasional travel to Waltham to align with line team (1 trip per year)

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job is performed in a temperature-controlled facility without exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures. Generally, this job is performed in a sanitized laboratory setting and routinely uses standard medical and research equipment such as centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, microscopes, incubators, pipettes and computers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood, viruses, bacteria, body fluids and other tissues. Employees entering and leaving the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The hiring range for this position is expected to fall between $107,800 - $126,800/year, reflecting the range candidates can reasonably expect to be considered for at time of offer, based on factors such as experience, internal equity, and qualifications.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of considerations, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialization, skills, abilities, and training. The above range represents the Company's good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition to your salary, the Company offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision, and dental insurance, as well as a 401(k) plan. All benefits are subject to eligibility requirements. Certain positions may also be eligible for additional compensation such as bonuses or commissions.
