Job Description

The Corporate Counsel provides support on a wide range of landlord-tenant and compliance matters and is a service-oriented professional who aligns with Tricon's North Star: to grow by providing an exceptional resident experience. The incumbent works collaboratively with many constituents across this industry-leading organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by supervisory personnel.

  • Partner with business leaders to advise on and support a broad range of real estate matters, landlord-tenant issues and new business initiatives; devise project implementation strategies that effectively balance business objectives with legal, risk, and compliance considerations

  • Provide guidance and direction to paralegals and internal business partners on property ownership and management issues, including landlord-tenant issues, fair housing, disputes, lease violations, HOA and local compliance, evictions, and environmental issues (mold, radon, contamination abatement)

  • Provide and help coordinate paralegal support for the National Account Support (centralized collections) team in managing and overseeing all non-payment evictions and pre-eviction collection activities; review legislative updates and assist with form revisions as needed; advise on the selection of local eviction counsel and manage and maintain outside counsel relationships

  • Provide and help coordinate paralegal support for the Sales, Marketing, and Leasing teams, including reviewing proposed new incentive programs, reviewing marketing materials, drafting disclaimers, and monitoring website updates

  • Assist in monitoring internal and industry-wide litigation trends and devising and implementing risk-mitigation strategies

  • Oversee and support existing compliance programs (e.g. fair housing, fee transparency, brokerage, environmental, etc.); develop and deliver compliance procedures and training, as needed

  • Monitor changes in relevant law and advise legal leadership on implications

  • Draft, review, manage, and support the continuous improvement of legal forms including leases, standard form agreements, marketing disclosures, and legal policies and procedures

  • Assist as needed on strategic and department projects and programs

Qualifications:

  • Experience providing legal support to single-family or multifamily residential property management clients

  • Experience advising and working with executives and a wide range of employees

  • Polished, efficient professional with strong multi-tasking and organizational abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Tenacious self-starter who can drive various projects to conclusion

  • Proven dedication to integrity, teamwork, and ethical leadership in a fast-paced, demanding environment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree

  • Licensed to practice law in California

  • Attorney with 5+ years of residential real estate experience

  • 3+ years of related law firm experience

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience with civil litigation

Salary Range

Placement within this compensation range will be determined by the candidate's knowledge, experience and skills.

$122,070.00 - $203,450.00
