Job Summary

Sherwin-Williams is now hiring a Yard Jockey based out of the Greensboro, NC site!

The Yard Jockey is responsible for the trailer movement on the site to meet demand requirements for raw material and the shipment of finished products. The yard jockey will perform a yard check at the beginning of the shift and ensure actual inventory is taken, twice weekly, of trailers and corresponding material. Additionally, the Yard Jockey will perform shipping functions to ensure that quality products are loaded accurately and efficiently from production lines. Duties include labeling pallets of finished goods and safely loading the product on trailers or staging locations so products arrive in excellent condition to our customers and Distribution Centers.

Job duties include contact with other employees and customers, operating a commercial motor vehicle as well as heavy machinery; and access to raw materials, finished merchandise, and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, vendors, and the general public.

Responsibilities



  • Conduct daily yard check.
  • Conduct inventory of all trailers on site.
  • Safe movement of trailers for Shipping and Receiving when needed.
  • Place Jack Stands under all inbound trailers or planned outbound trailers.
  • Communicate with managers regarding any issues in the yard or dock area, outside carrier drivers, shipping/warehouse concerns, etc. to Supervisor or Shipping Lead.
  • Responsible for inspecting vehicles for mechanical and/or safety issues through daily inspections each day before operating
  • Report all damage to vehicles and trailers according to standard operating procedures.
  • Comply with all DOT truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, break periods etc.) as well as with company policies and procedures.
  • Receive & ship incoming and outgoing freight, including but not limited to finished goods, returned goods, packaging, recycling, pallets and supplies.
  • Communicate professionally with all carriers, vendors and customers including but not limited to DSC's and stores.
  • Knows and follows all safety rules, procedures, established SOPs, and work instructions
  • Drive a tractor-trailer and electric or propane forklift trucks.
  • Perform all warehouse functions as assigned
  • Sets up and proficiently operates computer controlled operating equipment, including entering information into the computer.
  • Reads and comprehends batch instructions, product labels, and other work-related documents
  • Drive a tractor-trailer and operate all warehouse equipment including but not limited to pallet jacks, forklifts, elevator, (de)palletizers, stretch wrapping equipment.
  • Slit and dump bags of raw materials.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned and keeps area and equipment clean.
  • If applicable and trained, performs all functions associated with loading and unloading raw material tankers, to include but not limited to operating pumps, valves, and automated delivery system.





Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future
  • Must have a valid Class-A Commercial Driver's License
  • Must have a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
  • Must have at least two (2) years of Class-A combination (tractor/trailer) road driving experience
  • Must have at least one year of experience operating a forklift.
  • Must have knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with RF technology
  • One year of general warehouse experience in loading/unloading shipments is preferred.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $29.38/$29.38(based on hours worked and activities performed by the successful candidate). This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.
  • Monday - Friday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
