Overview
Job Summary: The Azure Cloud Architect - IT Infrastructure (Internal-Facing) at Certara plays a critical role in shaping and driving the company's cloud-first strategy by architecting secure, scalable, and highly available solutions within Microsoft Azure. This role is embedded within Certara's global IT organization and focuses exclusively on internal infrastructure systems that support our professional services, software engineering, and corporate operations. The Architect will serve as a strategic technical leader responsible for designing cloud-based platforms, guiding Azure governance and landing zone development, and facilitating the secure integration of cloud-native technologies into Certara's internal systems. This includes collaborating closely with infrastructure and development teams to evaluate existing environments, plan and execute cloud migrations, and implement best practices for performance, security, and cost optimization. As a key influencer in Certara's digital transformation, the individual will also lead initiatives involving Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and business continuity planning. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate and align architectural decisions with broader organizational goals. This is a hands-on, leadership role ideal for someone passionate about operational excellence, innovation in cloud technologies, and driving internal IT modernization at scale.
Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
- Design and implement enterprise-grade Azure cloud infrastructure aligned with business needs.
- Lead cloud strategy development, governance, and migration planning.
- Provide subject matter expertise in Azure IaaS, PaaS, networking, security, and automation.
- Create architectural standards, policies, diagrams, and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal development and IT teams for solution integration.
- Evaluate existing infrastructure, propose enhancements, and execute improvements.
- Support Azure Gov Cloud tenants and landing zones using best practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Lead and participate in short-term strategic consulting projects and proof of concepts.
- Implement cloud-native solutions using containers, API management, and integration services.
- Drive automation, monitoring, and disaster recovery processes.
- Provide mentorship, participate in strategic planning, and support presales efforts where applicable.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- 10+ years of overall IT experience, with a minimum of 3 years focused on Microsoft Azure architecture, design, and delivery.
- Demonstrated success in leading or contributing to large-scale Azure implementations, including migrations, hybrid environments, and cloud-native solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience across Azure infrastructure services including Virtual Networks, Azure VMs, Azure Storage, AAD, Azure DevOps, and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, ARM templates, Bicep).
- Solid understanding of cloud governance frameworks, including RBAC, cost management, compliance, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with DevOps practices and implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, ARM, or Bicep.
- Comfortable working in agile, fast-paced, global teams able to adapt quickly, take initiative, and solve problems collaboratively. A team-first mindset proactive in supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge, and helping others succeed.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear business outcomes for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to lead by example, mentor others, and contribute to strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration.
- A can-do attitude with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and customer focus.
- Experience in pre-sales engagements, technical presentations, or solution consulting is a plus.
- Microsoft Azure Architect certification is highly preferred.
