About Ameren Missouri Ameren Missouri has been providing electric and gas service for more than 100 years, and our electric rates are among the lowest in the nation. Ameren Missouri's mission is to power the quality of life for our 1.2 million electric and 132,000 natural gas customers in central and eastern Missouri. Our service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities including the greater St. Louis area DUTIES: Under direct but not constant supervision, responsible for the approval or rejection of credit on construction requests provided by field personnel, seek guidance from Credit Supervisor on non-routine credit situations; to avoid the ordering of erroneous disconnection of service to customers for nonpayment of bills or failure to provide surety deposits and for promptly issuing orders to restore service. Duties include but are not limited to: Determine if collection action should be taken on checks returned unpaid by financial institutions for both residential and non-residential accounts. Work with energy assistance agencies in taking individual pledges, resolving issues and explaining program. Address non-residential and high balance residential accounts for special consideration outside of system parameters. Determine need for deposits and security and collection path instruments such as payment agreements, disconnect notices and special disconnects for non-pay. Support handling, movement and reporting of accounts to third parties for collection. Determine credit approval for line extensions (SEGA) and construction. Resolve past-due construction, rental, damage and scrap billing through interaction with billed parties, third parties and Company personnel. Follow-up on claims maintained in bankruptcy, receivership, or probate action. Mail and review Medical Equipment Registry (MER) forms to determine if the medical equipment being used qualifies for enrollment into the MER program. Review doctor submitted customer health information to determine if it qualifies for a Medical Hardship. Investigate customer claims they were billed for service in error. If in error, determine the responsible party and pursue corrective actions accordingly. Determine if aged accounts receivable should be transferred to an active account due to the Benefit of Service rule. Investigate requests for new service when the Call Center deems such requests as possibly fraudulent. Using skip tracing tools, verify a customer's identity. Apply appropriate Company policy, Credit Policy and Public Service Commission regulations. Hold as confidential information obtained in connection with duties and relating to Ameren's business or personnel, as per the Corporate Compliance Policy and supervisory instruction with personnel at all levels of the organization, customers, vendors and other third parties. CONTACTS: With customers in handling credit, collection and adjustment matters and occasionally with outside counsel. With supervisors and other employees throughout Ameren Missouri. QUALIFICATIONS: Associate degree or sixty (60) credit hours toward a bachelor's degree required from an accredited university, college, or business school with at least 6 semester hours of accounting, finance, or economics, with a passing grade of "C' or better. Accounting classes can include Accounting I, Accounting II, Managerial Accounting, Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting, with a passing grade of "C" or better. Or High school diploma or equivalent is required; with Two or more years of Accounting, Billing, Customer Service or Financial experience within the last five years. Must pass EEI SASS Basic Clerical Aptitude Battery (BCAB) and the SASS Data Entry. Knowledge of the Credit & Collection policies of the Company; working knowledge of customer accounts and records, rate schedules, and billing methods. Must have a good command of English and be able to speak clearly; have the tact and diplomacy essential for customer contacts relative to the job; effective letter writing skills; patient, courteous and professional. Must have the ability to resolve disputes in a manner which reflects well upon the Company. Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). The ability to work as part of a team and to work independently as needed. OTHER: Candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
