POSITION SPECIFICS

The Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Management Information Systems (MIS) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2026. High-quality teaching and research will be expected of the selected candidate, along with a program of scholarship consistent with the School's tenure, workload, and AACSB standards. The standard teaching assignments may include one or more core courses in cybersecurity, data analytics, database management systems, Python programming, or systems analysis. We also seek to expand our robust research agenda in management information systems to further contribute to advancing knowledge and address contemporary challenges facing business and society. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary collaborations and industry partnerships. An earned Ph.D. or DBA in MIS or a closely related field is required by the start date.

Salary is negotiable and competitive with other AACSB-accredited schools of business. The startup package includes summer research funding during the first year, along with ongoing annual support for travel to professional meetings and access to major statistical packages and databases. A partial listing of available databases includes WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eventus, Lexis-Nexis, I/B/E/S, PHLX data, NYSE TAQ, PACAP, Bureau von Dijk, Datastream, and Worldscope.

Penn State Behrend is an undergraduate and graduate college of The Pennsylvania State University. The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International and listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review. It offers 10 undergraduate majors, a hybrid MBA delivered at two locations, an online Master of Project Management (MPM) program, distinctive programs in the country, and an International Business degree, which also allows students to specialize in a functional area such as business economics or finance. The Black School houses the Center for Financial Literacy and the Center for Family Business. The school supports a growing, all-campus interest in research addressing women's health issues, energy and sustainability, and polymer science.

The Black School of Business occupies a modern $30 million facility, with the School of Engineering providing a basis for a multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million endowment, with a market value of approximately $40 million today, provides significant support for the School's programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs, endowed professorships, and new programming initiatives.

Erie, Pennsylvania, is a metropolitan area of more than a quarter of a million people located on the southern shores of Lake Erie, two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. The area's economy reflects a mix of educational, medical, industrial, tourism, and service activity; the region is home to five colleges and universities, including Penn State Behrend. The area is celebrated for its exceptional school districts, which offer a thriving environment for youth educational development and provide a supportive and engaging community for families.
