The Libraries have a highly valued faculty and staff of about 200, who are committed to developing innovations in access services, information literacy, and digital initiatives. Rutgers University Libraries operate with a budget of $45 million and have outstanding collections, especially in jazz and New Jerseyana. Collectively, the Libraries' holdings include more than 5 million volumes. The Libraries hold memberships in ARL, CNI, CRL, Lyrasis, NERL, VALEnj, SPARC, and the Coalition of Open Access Policy Institutions ( COAPI); use Ex Libris, Alma, Primo, and OCLC as primary bibliographic utilities; and utilize a Fedora-based institutional repository.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Digital Humanities Librarian for The Margery Somers Foster Center.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Develops two digital humanities projects using the data collected from the CWGL: Center for Women's Global Leadership Resource Center collection. Approximately 950 titles (98%) of the collection are available in Quicksearch, using the Primo Collection capability in Alma.
  • Receives expert guidance from the Digital Humanities Librarian and GIS Specialist. The 2 projects based on this collection are as follows:


1. Identification of themes represented in the collection using the Voyant tool, a web-based tool for text analysis.
2. Mapping of the location of women's advocacy groups and publishers of the material Esri ArcGIS software (the university provides site license) creating an interactive world map with the women's and gender activist organizations around the world as represented in the collection.

Salary Details $31.84/hourly

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in a Library Science program with a Master of Information, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of metadata creation with demonstrated attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with publications in different languages by international activist groups advocating issues on women, gender, and sexuality.
