Description

We're seeking a detail-obsessed and process-oriented Sr. Manager, Contracts Operations to join our busy Trade Contracts team. This role supports a range of Macmillan imprints, including Celadon Books, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Flatiron Books, Henry Holt and Company, Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, St. Martin's Publishing Group, Tor Publishing Group, and Macmillan Audio.

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Contracts, this position is primarily responsible for overseeing and ensuring the accurate and timely registration of copyrights for all newly published titles across Macmillan's Trade imprints. The Sr. Manager, Contracts Operations also plays a key role in reviewing and enhancing workflows tied to copyright registration and contract processes-helping to streamline procedures and improve the overall operational effectiveness of the Trade Contracts team. This position also serves as a key liaison between the Contracts department and Royalties.

What you'll do:



  • Oversee a timely copyright registration process for all Macmillan Trade imprints, including hands-on responsibility for efficient registration processes and oversight of the work of others who work on copyright registration. Serve as the department's subject matter expert on copyright and liaison with the US Copyright Office.
  • Ensure the Contracts Department responds timely and effectively to inquiries and requests from the Royalties team, including updates related to payees, agents, and author estates.
  • Manage, support, and oversee two team members day-to-day, including assessment and
    distribution of workload, supervision, mentoring, and development.
  • Liaising with in-house departments including Legal, Operations, Editorial, Finance, identify, develop, and implement process improvements to streamline Contracts department operations and enhance overall efficiency.

  • Comfortable with Microsoft 365 and Google Workplace
  • Familiar with electronic signature programs (e.g., DocuSign) and publishing data entry programs (e.g., Biblio3 Suite)


Ideal Experience:



  • 2-3 years' experience people management
  • 5-10 years in contracts, paralegal and/or operations roles, preferably in-house
  • Background in book publishing, particularly copyright, contracts, legal, operations and business issues
  • Prior use of Biblio3 Suite a plus


This role will have an annual salary of $71,000-$80,000.
