Job Purpose: Leads and manages the Welch Vacuum engineering team in the research, design, and development of vacuum pump products and systems. Provides strategic direction, oversees project execution, ensures adherence to standards, and fosters team growth to achieve organizational and customer goals. Job Summary: The Welch Vacuum Product Development Engineering Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the engineering team responsible for the research, design, and development of vacuum pump products and systems. This role oversees all phases of product development, ensures compliance with industry standards, and manages project portfolios to meet organizational and customer objectives. The Engineering Manager fosters a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development, while promoting effective collaboration across teams. This position serves as the primary technical authority, representing the engineering function in executive meetings, customer engagements, and industry forums. Duties and Responsibilities: * Provides strategic direction and leadership for the engineering team, aligning project goals with organizational objectives and customer requirements. * Oversees the development of conceptual and detailed product specifications, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards. * Guides and review the evaluation and optimization of design factors such as function, materials, performance, cost, and efficiency across multiple projects. * Champions the application of advanced scientific analysis, modeling, and simulation techniques to drive innovation and improve product outcomes. * Ensures thorough validation of test results, robust failure analysis, and the implementation of effective qualification procedures for product reliability and safety. * Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and quality enhancement. * Manages project portfolios, including resource allocation, budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation, to ensure timely and successful project delivery. * Facilitates effective communication and collaboration within the engineering team and with cross-functional stakeholders, including manufacturing, quality, and customers. * Develops, implements, and maintains engineering best practices, standards, and documentation processes. * Mentors and develops engineering staff, promoting professional growth, knowledge sharing, and high-performance teamwork. * Represents the engineering function in executive meetings, customer engagements, and industry forums, serving as a technical authority and advocate for the team. Skills Required: * Proactive and Self-Organized: Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills. * Has a "sense of urgency" when communicating internally and externally. * Active listening skills with ability to draw out customer pain and articulate value proposition to customers. * Strong commercial awareness * Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with high competency in customer interactions. * Presentation Skills: Capability to create and deliver impactful product presentations. * Analytical and problem-solving abilities. * Lead with influencing to drive desired business results. * Strong understanding of engineering principles. * Ability to manage cross-functional teams to achieve common goals. Required Qualifications: * Continuous learning mindset too keep up with evolving technologies. * Experience with strategic planning, project management, and process optimization * Excellent mechanical comprehensions with the ability to understand, describe or discuss problems of a technical nature. * Strong mentoring capabilities to help develop junior engineers on team. * Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively. * Technical competence in Fluid Power (Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Electromechanical Systems). * Experience in Life Science market spaces required * Effective verbal and written communication skills * Ability to manage team effectively to support business goals. Education & Experience: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution (Master's degree or MBA preferred). * 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a technical leadership or management role within pump solutions, fluid handling, or related industries. * Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams, project portfolios, and cross-functional initiatives. * Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. * In-depth knowledge of pump technologies, product development lifecycles, and industry regulations. * Certifications such as PMP or Six Sigma are a plus. Travel Expectations: Willingness to Travel: Availability to travel up to 25 % of the time (e.g., customer visits, training at our technical centers, trade shows, etc.). Supervisory Responsibilities: This position manages the Welch Vacuum New Product Development engineering team and is expected to provide a leadership role within the division. Position responsible for driving the strategic growth segments of the division through innovative product development and exploring adjacent market opportunities. Must effectively interface with all division departments and management.
