This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

Software Engineer II - Test and Flight Data Management

The Test and Flight Data Management team is recruiting passionate software engineers and professionals to join a full-stack development team to advance Blue Origin's vision. We are a team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth.

As part of the development team, you will use the latest architectures and technologies in AWS to accelerate the development and adoption of multi-tenant software capabilities across Blue Origin in service of Blue's mission and beyond. This position requires a passion for innovation, bias for action and a commitment to operational excellence

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solve technical problems, at every layer of the stack as a member of a Scrum team.

  • Contribute to technical roadmap definition and decide which features and improvements to prioritize.

  • Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain multi-tenant SaaS applications improving our service performance, durability, security, cost, and reliability.

  • Automate software build, test, and deployment pipelines.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and engineering peers to understand and translate requirements into flexible, robust software.

  • Participate in technical discussions to drive architectural decisions and promote continuous improvement in our engineering practices.

  • Demonstrate a high standard for code quality, testability, and maintainability.

  • Contribute to standards and best practices and coach and mentor fellow engineers

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience, developing enterprise-grade SaaS applications.

  • A passion for innovation, learning and sharing knowledge.

  • Proven ability to learn quickly and develop creative solutions to complex problems.

  • Exposure to modern microservice-based software architectures and containerized or serverless environments.

  • Experience using AI development tools to enhance developer productivity.

  • Experience working on a full-stack software development team in an agile development (Scrum preferred) with at least 3 years working in the following areas:

  • Frontend development with React

  • Backend development (REST APIs, asynchronous messaging) preferably in Java or Python

  • Data engineering with relational and non-relational datastores

  • Infrastructure as code (with terraform or similar), CI/CD pipelines and security controls

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent preferable but not required.

  • Proficiency in more than one programming languages including Python, TypeScript/ECMAScript, and Java.

  • Experience building and operating scalable data platforms for data-intensive applications.

  • Manufacturing and/or Aerospace experience.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $121,323.00-$169,852.20

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
