Position Summary

The Risk Management & Compliance Director is responsible for overseeing organization-wide safety, regulatory compliance, and operational risk management functions at the YMCA of Greater Houston. This role collaborates with leadership across all Centers and program sites to foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

This position will focus on proactive risk reduction, compliance assurance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Auditing


  • Conduct regular safety and compliance audits across all branches, camps, aquatics, childcare centers, and program sites.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation, including OSHA 300 logs, aquatic audits, risk observations, and corrective action plans.
  • Develop and present audit summaries, dashboards, and compliance reports to leadership.

Incident & Risk Management


  • Track and analyze incidents using the Origami Risk platform; coordinate root cause analyses and follow-up actions with branch leaders.
  • Lead post-incident reviews, developing corrective actions and preventative strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with emergency reporting timelines and regulatory documentation.
  • Facilitate emergency preparedness, drills, and crisis response planning in coordination with leadership teams.

Training & Education


  • Partner with the Executive Director of Leadership Development to ensure compliance with mandatory training programs.
  • Support facility and program leaders in meeting annual training requirements.
  • Deliver or coordinate specialized compliance and safety training as needed.

Transportation & Operational Safety


  • Oversee compliance for Association transportation programs and driving standards.
  • Collaborate with supervisors on driver training, monitoring (including telematics/camera systems), and corrective coaching.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards across facilities, camps, and aquatic operations.

Program & Youth Protection


  • Collaborate with Youth Development leadership to support compliance with state childcare licensing standards.
  • Support Association-wide implementation of child protection and abuse prevention protocols.
  • Ensure adherence to Praesidium Accreditation standards and YMCA child safety policies.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety & health, risk management, compliance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional certification strongly preferred (PRM, CRM, etc.).
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in occupational safety, facility safety, compliance, or risk management (nonprofit or multi-site organization experience preferred).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA/NEC, CDC/MAHC, Texas childcare licensing, and Texas state transportation standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and risk management information systems (Origami preferred but not required).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with ability to influence without authority.
