We're looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Construction Engineering Inspector II to join our team in the Charlotte, NC region. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career while working on NCDOT transportation projects that directly improve how people live and travel. What You'll Do:
- Inspect Transportation Projects: Ensure work and materials meet all project plans, proposals, and NCDOT specifications.
- Verify Accuracy: Perform key measurements and calculations for weights, volumes, and dimensions.
- Document Progress: Prepare "as-built" documentation, plot and run cross-sections, and maintain detailed daily reports.
- Test Materials: Conduct field tests to confirm materials meet quality standards throughout each phase of the project.
- Be Out in the Field: Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, bringing projects to life from the ground up.
- Travel & Flexibility: Occasionally travel across the state, with extended hours or overnight stays as projects require.
- Work Independently: Take ownership of tasks while collaborating with contractors, clients, and internal teams.
What We're Looking For: Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field; or an associate degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or equivalent work experience (minimum of four years) will also be considered
- Two applicable certifications
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
Preferred Qualifications
- NCDOT QMS Level 1 & 2, Roadway, and Concrete certifications
- Experience leading inspectors performing highway materials sampling and testing
- Experience interpreting and applying plans, drawings, and specifications to field construction tasks
- Familiarity with SiteManager or other construction management software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, clients, and the public
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
